Columbus Blue Jackets @ Vegas Golden Knights: 3/24/24 Game Recap

Just like last night, the Blue Jackets came out and scored the first goal of this road game in Vegas. At 4:32, Erik Gudbranson scored his fifth goal of the season against one of the best goalies in the league, Adin Hill. With the primary assist, Zach Werenski has not only his thirty-ninth assist this season but is officially the second-most in Columbus Blue Jackets history! Congratulations to him! In addition, Kirill Marcheko adds his sixteenth assist. The Blue Jackets would guard their net and head into period two with a 1-0 lead, but there's no way the defending Stanley Cup Champions are going down without a fight, and fight they did.

With twenty-two shots on goal in period two alone, it should be no surprise that two of those shots resulted in goals for the Golden Knights. The first goal, at 3:29, was number fifteen this season for Ivan Barbashev. The second goal, at 4:57, was number twenty-three this season for Jack Eichel. With just three shots on goal this period, there was only room for improvement for the Blue Jackets. That said, Daniil Tarasov had a great effort this period, with a .909% this period alone.

It's important to note that the Golden Knights swapped Adin Hill out of the net for Logan Thompson, but that didn't stop the home team. At 3:03, Pavel Dorofeyev hit double digits in goals with ten after catching Daniil Tarasov too far from the goal, giving the Golden Knights a 3-1 lead. On their second chance at the powerplay this evening, Jack Eichel would score his second goal tonight and twenty-fourth this season at 17:18. Hometown player Carson Meyer would ease the blow of losing tonight at 19:48 with his first NHL Goal this season! Dmitri Voronkov picks up the primary assist, his fifteenth this season, and Trey Fix-Wolansky picks up his first point this NHL Season with the secondary assist. Alas, the Blue Jackets lose this game to the Golden Knights, splitting the 2023-24 series 1-1 with a 4-2 final.

Our next game is against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night. The puck drops at 10:00 p.m.

Go CBJ!
