San Jose Sharks @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 3/16/24 Game Recap

The San Jose Sharks have had a trying season like the Columbus Blue Jackets, so either team would be happy to pick up a win and two points this evening in Columbus. That said, the Blue Jackets would look to defend their home ice, and at 17:41, Captain Boone Jenner would start that trend with his twenty-first goal this season! Johnny Gaudreau snatches up his thirty-eighth assist while Damon Severson adds his fourteenth.

The Blue Jackets expanded their lead to two goals at 0:49 into period two with a seventh goal from former Penguin Alex Nylander! Yes, eleven games and seven goals—it's incredible! Ivan Provorov's twenty-fourth assist on this Nylander goal was the only assist on this goal. Fabian Zetterland's eighteenth goal this season expired the Blue Jackets' hope of shutting out the Sharks at 11:48, but Johnny Gaudreau would give the Blue Jackets back their two-goal lead at 15:03 with his eleventh goal this season! Alex Nylander has a 1-1-2 night with the primary assist on that Gaudreau goal, while Boone Jenner goes 1-1-2 tonight with the secondary assist, giving him eleven this season. This would wrap up period two with a nice 3-1 lead for the home team.

Unfortunately, the Blue Jackets have often given up goals in period three, and tonight was the same. Henry Thrun scored at 11:42, cutting the Blue Jackets to a single-goal lead. Alex Nylander's second goal tonight, an empty net at 18:35, would put a bow on this game. It's assist number thirty-nine for Johnny Gaudreau, who has a 1-2-3 night. The Blue Jackets deplete the remaining time and win this one at home 4-2!

Star Three goes to 1-2-3 Johnny Gaudreau. Star Two goes to 2-1-3 Alex Nylander. Star One goes to the Goalie of the Night with a 0.951%, Daniil Tarasov!

Also, if you were curious which other Blue Jackets have had eight goals in just eleven games since joining the team, you will find just one name: Alex Nylander! Let's hear it for some more records being set in favor of our franchise and players!

Our next game is tomorrow evening when the Winnipeg Jets will cross the border to visit Columbus on St. Patrick's Day! The puck will drop at 6:00 p.m.

GO CBJ!
