Columbus Blue Jackets @ Nashville Predators: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 7

The first period would be full of great saves by Daniil Tarasov and seven shots by the Blue Jackets, all of which were stopped by the home team's goalie, Scott Wedgewood. The predators would have six shots of their own, but as you probably expected by my complement to Tarasov, none of those shots would make it past him. After a scoreless first period, though, that'd all change in the second!

At 3:53, Kirill Marchenko would be the first player to score this evening with his fourth goal of the young season. Adam Fantilli and Jack Johnson would each gain their first assists of the season on this goal as well. A few minutes later, at 6:42, Zach Aston-Reese would tack on goal two of the evening with his second goal of the season. In addition, Mathieu Oliver would continue his scoring ways with his second assist this season. Unfortunately, the Predators would get back one of those two goals before the period would end. Of course, they're not just going to stop fighting for the win. So, at 10:40F. Forsberg, a notable name on the Predators, would score his fourth goal of the season. R. O'Reilly would have his third assist this season on this goal, and the period would end with a 2-1 Blue Jackets lead.

In the blink of an eye, the Predators would make it a brand new game at 2-2 just -0:26 into the third period. The goal would come from C. Smith and be his first of the season. The assists on this goal would go to M. McCarron, his first this season, and B. Skjei, his second this season. But then, leave it to Z, as Zach Werenski would give the Blue Jackets their lead back at 3:07 with a goal all his own at 3:07! It was short-lived, though, as A. Carrier would find the equalizer at 4:09 with his first goal of the season.  Z. L'Heureux would have his first assist on this goal, and we'd be back to another new game with a 3-3 tie. It should come as no surprise to longtime fans of the Columbus Blue Jackets that both teams would fight hard, but neither would score, and that means it's the first overtime of the 2024-25 Columbus Blue Jackets Season!

Sadly, it would be quick work for the Predators as J. Marchessault would score his second goal of the season 1:44 into the overtime period. There would be no assists on this goal, and the Blue Jackets will bring home a point, but dang did they battle with the desire for two tonight. Daniil Tarassov would wrap up the night in Nashville with a .879 save percentage with 29 saves on the Predators 33 shots on goal. Also, something to monitor going forward, Mathieu Oliver and Adam Fantilli both blocked awkward shots and showed pain after. The two stayed in the game till the end, but hopefully nothing comes from this postgame; fingers crossed.

The next game for the Blue Jackets will be on Monday evening at home. The Edmonton Oilers, who havn't had the season they expected after making it all the way to the Cup Final ealrier this season, will be in Columbus looking for an easy win. I think we can handle them, though.

Go CBJ!
