Manasota Wild @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 5
Though periods one and two only one goal scored would count. That loan goal would come from M. Rossi at 12:40. The two assists on this goal would go to Y. Trenin and M. Foligno. This would be M. Rossi's second goal this season while both men with assists would have their first this season. It would appear in period two that the Wild had extended their lead to two goals, but the Blue Jackets would challenge for goaltender interference against Daniil Tarasov and win. So, that goal would be wiped from the board. Unfortunately, even though the Blue Jackets looked more cohesive this period, they wouldn't score and the Wild would take that one-goal lead into the final period of regulation.
In that final period of regulation, the Wild would find their grove as one of their star players would capitalize on a five-on-three powerplay opportunity. K. Kaprizov would add his second goal of the season to the scoresheet at 2:52. B. Fabar would add his third assist this season on this goal while M. Boldy would add his fourth. When back at full strength the Blue Jackets would continue to push as a two-goal deficit is possible to overcome with roughly 17:00 remaining. However, at 8:26, M. Zuccarello would add his third goal of the season to the Wild tally, making it a 3-0 game. K. Kaprizov would add his sixth assist on this goal while J. Merrill would add his first. Yegor Chinakov, the point-every-game-man would prevent the shutout with his third goal this season at 18:35. This goal would give Sean Monahan his third assist and David Jiricek his first. This goal would ignite a spark, but it would come too late for the Blue Jackets to expand on it, and they'd lose this one 3-1 against the Wild.
The Blue Jackets would look to win their sixth game this season on Tuesday night at home. The Toronto Maple Leafs will come down from Canada and prove quite the challenge for the home team, but if the Blue Jackets focus I think they're up for it. The puck will drop on this game at 7:30 p.m.
