Columbus Blue Jackets @ L. A. Kings: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 13

The Blue Jackets would come out of San Jose Tuesday night looking for more than one point, and they came out on the hunt but so did the L.A. Kings. The Blue Jackets would score the only goal in period one, giving them a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play! The goal would be the first for #10, Dimitri Voronkov, who faced injury earlier this season. Seeing him score his first after such adversity was a great moment, 5th Line. The only assist on this goal would belong to Justin Danforth, another player excelling since returning from injury. The goal came at 13:26.

The next period would be a different story as a former Jacket would slide the puck past Elvis Merzlikins and jolt the Kings into a 1-1 tie. This goal came from Vladislav Gavrikov and it would be his second this season. Adrian Kempe would gain his eighth assist with the primary assist on Gavrikov's goal while Anze Kopitar would have his eleventh with the secondary. The goal happened at 4:16. The Kings would then score their second goal this period, taking their first lead at home tonight. This goal was scored by Warren Foedele, his sixth this season. The primary assist would go to Akil Thomas while the secondary assist would be credited to Samuel Helenius and this would be the first assist for both men on the season. That goal would come at 16:12. So, the Kings would have a one-goal lead heading into period three. It's also worth noting that Mathieu Oliver had a fight with Andreas Englund at 9:06, but no powerplay resulted from both men having five-minute fighting majors.

The Kings would drive up the score again early into period three with a goal from Trevor More, his second goal this season. Phillip Danauot would have the primary assist on this goal and it would be his eighth assist this season. The Kings would also accomplish a notable feat as they'd score the shorthanded goal at just the 0:30 mark too. The Blue Jackets would gain one back, though, thanks to Ivan Provorov at 0:49! This was his first goal of the season and on the powerplay to boot! Justin Danforth would have the primary assist, his second of the evening while Adam Fantilli would have the secondary, giving him fourth. But, the comeback was short-lived as the Kings would score again, making it 4-2. The next Kings goal would come from Alex Laferriere at 7"05, giving him nine goals so far this season. The primary assist would be Jole Edmundson's third this season while the secondary would be Warren Foedele's third assist this season. The Kings would then close the night out with an empty net goal, making the final 5-2. The goal came at 19:29 and would be scored by Brandt Clarke, his second goal this season. This goal also came on a Kings' Powerplay. Anze Kopitar would have his second assist of the night, his twelfth this season while Adrian Kempe would have the secondary and his second assist of the game, his ninth this season.

All in all, this game seems worse than it was if you just glance at the score. Elvis Merzzlikins had some incredible saves even though he ended with a .818 save percentage. The team continued to push even when down and really did their best to come back. It's a far cry from what we've seen in the last few seasons when the Blue Jackets would find themselves down, that's for sure. The Blue Jackets will have to push this game from their minds quickly as they travel to Anaheim to face the Ducks tomorrow in an early game set for 3:00 p.m. Although I know no one will see this on the team (at least I doubt it) I would love to usher in my 30th birthday tomorrow with a win, CBJ!

GO CBJ!
