Columbus Blue Jackets @ Montreal Canadians: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 17
After an electric win last night against the Penguins in Nationwide Arena it was time for a road trip to Montreal to face the Canadians. The Canadians are improving as a team, making leaps from last season as the Jackets have been, so I was excited to see this game. Also, a shoutout to Canadian Cole Caufield for wearing the number 13 this season to honor his friend, Johnny Gaudreau. Even if he is on the other side of the ice, he's a class act for that. Now, let's recap a game!
The Canadians would come up with the first goal of the evening, scoring on Daniil Tarasov at 4:59 into the first period. C. Caufield would come away with the primary assist, his second this season while K. Dach would capture his seventh with the secondary. This goal would be scored on a Canadians powerplay, and we couldn't stay out of the box this period, so the score being 1-0 at the end of one is a hockey miracle!
The Blue Jackets would get on the board thanks to the newest Blue Jacket, Dante Fabro at 7:40! It's another assist for Zach Werenski, his ninth this season, and also another assist for Kevin Labano who's keeping pace with Werenski with this also being his ninth this season. At 8:09, a full-on fight broke out near center ice between our Mathieu Oliver and the Canadians' A. Xheka. Both men would take five-minute majors for fighting. Not long after, the Canadians would break the 1--1 tie at 15:49 by way of N. Suzuki and it's his seventh of the season. J. Armia would pick up his fifth assist this season while A. Xhekaj would add his first assist to his numbers this season. This would be the final goal of the second period, leaving the Jackets still down a goal despite scoring one early in the period.
L. Condotta would find the net for the first time this season at 11:04 and expand his home team's lead to 3-1. The only assist would belong to J. Armia and it would be his sixth this season. Not long after, at 12:52, J. Evans would add his third goal of the season and take the home team to a 4-1 advantage over the Jackets. C. Caufield would add his third assist this season and would be the lone assist on this goal. The Canadians would then close out the game with one more goal (making it 5-1) at 15:55. The goal would come from J. Anderson, his fifth of the season. M. Matheson and L. Hutson would each have their eleventh assists of the season on this goal. As I mentioned, this would be the final goal of the game and the Canadians would win 5-1.
The good thing is that the Jackets have a day off tomorrow game ise, but will travel from Montreal to Boston. They will face the Bruins, at home, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night. Here's hoping they can leave this loss in Canada and bring it in Boston then.
Go CBJ!
