Anaheim Ducks @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 30
The Ducks and Jackets delivered if you wanted a tight, competitive hockey game tonight. It would take until 16:33 for a goal to happen, and it would come from the Ducks' M. McTavish. This goal would become his third this season while R. Fabbri would add his first assist of the season and J. LaCombe would add his fourth. The score wouldn't stay 1-0 Ducks long, though, as the Jackets would go on the powerplay and get a goal from Kirill Marchenko at 17:09! This goal would yield assist number nine for Keent Johnson this season and number twenty-one for the ever-scoring Zach Werenski. Seconds later, Cole Sillinger's fifth goal this season at 17:43 would give the home team their first lead of the evening! Zach Aston=Reese would add his sixth assist on this goal while Mathieu Oliver would add his fourth. The Jackets would carry their one-goal lead into period two.
Of course, the Ducks would continue to push, and A. Killorn would eventually break through Jet Greaves's goaltending wall at 13:56 with his fifth goal this season. R. Strome would add his tenth assist on this goal while T. Terry would add his fifteenth. Later in the period, it would appear as if Dimitri Voronkov had put the Jackets back on top by a goal, but it would be challenged by the Ducks for offsides, which was found to be correct. So, with that goal removed and no further scores in the second period, the Ducks and Jackets would skate into period three tired at 2-2.
At 11:25, James van Riemsdyk would add his fourth goal of the season, taking the Jackets' lead back. Damon Severson would add his eleventh assist on this goal while Kevin Labano would enter double digits with his tenth. Unfortunately, an unlucky redirection would tie the game again at 17:14, thanks to a goal from J. LaCombe's sixth goal of the season. T. Terry would add his sixteenth assist this season and second of the game while A. Killorn would add his eighth assist of the season giving him a 1-1-2 night thus far. I'm sure at this point no one that's a part of the 5th Line is surprised that time would expire and this game would go to a 3 on 3 overtime.
A. Killorn would end overtime with a goal at 1:43, giving himself a 2-1-3 night and his visiting Ducks the win. R. Fabbri would add his second assist of the season and the night on this goal. The Jackets pick up a point tonight, but it's far from the two they hoped, again.
A little good news, Dylan Tyrer announced tonight on the radio pregame show that both Yeggor Chinakov and Captain Boone Jenner are both skating again.
The Jackets will now hop on a plane and fly to North Carolina to face the Hurricanes tomorrow evening. The puck drop is set for 5:00 p.m. I will be working during the game, so my next blog will be on Tuesday when the team flies to Tampa to take on the Lightning.
Go CBJ!
