Columbus Blue Jackets @ Tampa Bay Lightning: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 32
For a road game against a team that could make the NHL Playoffs, the Blue Jackets would hold their own in period one, allowing only one goal from L. Glendening at 3:21. This would become his second goal of the season and give N. Perbix his sixth goal of the season and E. Lilleberg his eight this season. It would be period two that saw far more turbulence from the Lighting for the Blue Jackets.
Period two saw three goals from the home team. N. Paul scored his seventh of the season at 1:28 and it would have no assists. Next, J. Guentzel scored his eighteenth goal of the season at 7:36. N. Paul would have the only assist on this goal, giving him nine this season. Lastly, M. Chaffee would score his sixth goal of the season at 14:18, and this would become the Lightning' first powerplay goal of the night. N. Paul would keep rolling as he'd add his tenth assist of the season and second of the night while teammate B. Hagel would add his twenty-first assist of the season. The main fireworks from this period for the Jackets would come from a Cole Sillinger fight (unhappy with the hit on Dante Fabrow I'll explain in a moment) and many great saves from Jet Greaves that kept this game at 4-0 heading into period three.
Note: Dante Fabro took a nasty hit to make his knee go backward as he was accelerating on the ice during period two. It was gruesome and I cringe at what news may come of it. I wish him well and can only hope it isn't as bad as it appeared.
The Jackets would come out with a purpose in period three, which would show. Mikeal Pyyhtia would score his first NHL Shorthanded Goal at 7:23! (Not a bad way to spend your birthday!) This is also his second goal of the season. Sean Kuraly would have the only assist on this goal, giving him five this season. Less than a minute later, Adam Fantilli joined the scoring with his sixth goal this season! Kirill Marchenko would have the only assist on this goal, giving him nineteen this season. But, wait, we're not done! Cole Sillinger would score at 14:11 and on the powerplay no well! This would become Sillinger's sixth goal this season. Dimitri Voronkov would add his sixth assist on this goal while Kirill Marchenko would add his twentieth and his second assist of the period and night. Unfortunately, B. Point would add his twenty-first goal of the season at 17:51. This would give N. Kucherov his thirty-third assist of the night while J. Guentzel would add his fifteenth. The game would conclude with a 5-3 Lightning win, but given that the final period began with the Lightning up 4-0, the final period was a nice pivot.
Jet Greaves finished with a .871 with his 27 saves on the Lighting' 31 shots on his net.
The Jackets will play their next game on Thursday evening back at Nationwide Arena. The home team will welcome the New Jersey Devils onto the ice at 7:00 p.m.
