Columbus Blue Jackets @ Vancouver Canucks: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 26
The Blue Jackets would look to find their stride on the road again in Vancouver and they would early in period one. The opening goal of this game would belong to Mathieu Oliver as he continues his best career season in the NHL. The goal would come at 7:10 and become his eighth this season. The primary assist would belong to Cole Sillinger and be his fourteenth assist this season while the secondary assist would belong to Zach Aston-Reese and be his fifth this season. With shots on goal being 17-2 in favor of the visiting Blue Jackets, they would carry a two-goal lead into the middle period.
At 1:16, Ivan Provorov would go into the boards and jam his thumb. I can't say for certain, but when the head medical trainer takes mirror minutes to give Dean Evanson an injury update after Provorov went straight from the ice and down the tunnel, it isn't a good sign. Shortly after this, the Canucks would make execute their comeback. At 3:52, B. Boeser would score his seventh goal of the season and cut the Jackets' lead in half. The primary assist would be credited to Q. Hughes and it would be his twenty-fourth this season while the secondary assist would go to V. Desharnais and it would be his second of the season. After a slue of powerplays, arguments, and fights the Canucks would tie the game at 19:00 by way of K. Sherwood would score his seventh this season. The primary assist would go to T. Blueger and it would be his seventh. This would knot the game at 2-2 going into the final period of regulation.
A few minutes into period three we would learn that Ivan Provorov wouldn't return as I already assumed. From the quick glance, I saw during intermission his thumb didn't look good; hopefully, the update in the coming days isn't as bad as it looked. The Canucks would break the 2-2 tie at 2:17 by way of P. Suter with his tenth goal this season. The primary assist would be credited to C. Garland and it would be his fifteenth this season while the secondary would be credited to C. Soucy and it would be his fourth this season. The Canucks would then make it a two-goal lead at 10:22 with a goal from J. DeBrusk on the powerplay. This would be his twelfth goal of the season. The primary assist would go to Q. Hughes and be his twenty-fifth assist this season while the secondary assist would go to B. Boeser and become his ninth this season. The Canucks would then put it away at 18:55 with an empty net goal by P. Suter, his eleventh this season. The only assist on this goal would go to E. Pettersson and it would be his seventeenth this season. This would put the game away in favor of the Canucks with a final score of 5-2.
