Columbus Blue Jackets @ Winnipeg Jets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 27
The most eventful parts of period one tonight came down to amazing goal saves by both Elvis Merzlikins of the Blue Jackets and Eric Comrie of the Jets. Aside from that, it was fun watching James van Riemsdyk of the Jackets and Neal Pionk of the Jets go round on the ice, dropping the gloves, but each getting only a two-minute roughing penalty! After all of that, though, the score would remain 0-0 and remain that until halfway through the second period.
K. Connor would break the 0-0 ice with a powerplay goal at 11:51. This goal in period two would be the first scored in the game and his fifteenth this season. J, Morrissey would add his twenty-fourth assist on this goal M. Scheifele would add his seventeenth. The Jackets would then get their own powerplay a few minutes later and at 13:53, Dimitri Voronkov would pop one into the net from the malay in front! This would become his seventh goal of the season. Kirill Marchenko would add his sixteenth assist on this goal while Zach Werenski would add his twentieth! The game would go into the final regulation period with a new tie, 1-1.
Kent Johnson would go on a goal spree in period three. His first would come at 7:15 and become his seventh this season. Sean Monahan would find his way to the point sheet with his fifteenth assist this season while James van Riemsdyk would add his third. Kent Johnson would again find the net at 9:42 with his second goal of the game and eighth this season. James van Riemsdyk would add his second assist this game and period, giving him four this season, and Ivan Provorov would score an assist after a hand injury caused him to miss the rest of the last game Friday! Sean Kuraly would seal this win with an empty net goal at 18:38, giving him three this season. There would be no assists on this goal and the Jackets would beat the best NHL team on home ice tonight! Even better, Dean Evanson got the win with his mom in the arena!
Kent Johnson would be the First Star tonight, and with a 2-0-2 night, I'm not surprised!
James van Riemsdyk would be the Second Star tonight with a 0-2-2 night.
Elivs Merslikins would be the Third Start tonight with his .960 game in goal, one of his best this season.
Something to watch; Cole Sillinger did leave the ice during the third period after blocking a Jets' shot and wasn't seen again for the rest of the game. Hopefully he's alright and ready for the next game Tuesday.
The Jackets will look to carry this incredible performance into their next game. It will be at home, but the Philidelphia Flyers are showing they're figuring things out with John Tortorella at the helm as Head Coach. That game will be on December 10th at 7:00 p.m.
GO CBJ!
