Washington Capitals @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 29
The lloss on Tuesday against the Philidelphia Flyers wwas rough, but the Blue Jackets once again proved tonight that they can bounce back after Canagda jetleg and a loss. With Jet Greaves 'earing' an NHL start after his incredible winning campagne in Cleveland with the Monsters, according to Dean Evason, it was gametine against the Capitals. Each team would have as many good oppertunities to score as goalies would have to save them and the game would stay 0-0 until 14:12 when yet another career milesone for Zach Werenski would come to fruition. It's triple digits in the goals catagory for #8 as he adds his 100th goal of his career and tenth this season. Way to go, Zach! Exxpanding on this, with the primary assist, Kent Johnson has already exceeded his point total last season with his eighth assist, seventeen points total. Wow, what a season for him, and that's with missing time due to a shoulcder injury early in the season! In addition, Sean Monahan adds his sixteenth assist in his first season in the jersey. The Capitals wouldn't match the goal dispite a few oppertunities on the powerplay, which we killed, and the second period would conclude with a one-goal Jackets' lead.
One thing you can garentee when you're playing the Capitals is that, even without star Alex Ovechkin, they will not quit until the game is over. Case in point, A. Protas would score his tenth goal of the game just 0:31 into period three, tying the game at 1-1. P. Dubois. the former Jacket, would add his sixteenth assist on this goal while J. Chychrun would add his nineth. The rest of the period would remain scoreless and the Jackets would go to overtime with one garenteed point, but still wanting to gain another and making one too by beating yet another top team in the NHL.
Unfortunately, A. Protas would add his second goal of the night and eleventh this seeason 2:23 into overtime. That said, the rockets the Jackets short toward the Capitals net before this happened were thrilling, and if not for Charlie Lindgren, the Jacket's likely would've put this game away before they did. Jet Greaves did amazing in net, even with the 2-1 loss in overtime he finished with a .942 save percentage thanks to his 34 saves on the Capitals 36 shots. This performance, along with the point for going to overtime, would also earn him the Third Star of the Game tonight. I look foard to seeing him in more games because to be called up and face a hot Capitals team and do this well is quite the startemeent, the one Dean Evnson expected, I'm sure.
Our next game will be Saturday night as we welcome the Ducks of Anaheim into Nationwide Arena at 7:00 p.m.
Congratulations on goal 100, Zach!
Go CBJ!
