Columbus Blue Jackets @ Carolina Hurricanes: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 49

Buckle up, 5th Line, this will be a long roller-coaster of a blog!

After a huge win last night against the Maple Leafs (5-1) the Jackets would come out in period one swinging for the fences. After an incredible few opening saves by Daniil Tarasov, Kent Johnson would score goal fourteen of his 2024-25 NHL Season, giving the Jackets an early 1-0 lead at 7:08. Luca Del Bel Belluz would add his fourth assist this season on the primary, his second in two days, on the primary. James van Riemsdyk would continue his scoring ways with his tenth assist this season on the secondary. Kirill Marchenko would quickly follow up Kent Johnson's goal with his nineteenth this season at 9:48. Adam Fantilli, who had his first NHL Hattrick last night would pick up the primary assist on this goal, his thirteenth this season while Jack Johnson would add his third assist this season on the secondary. The Jackets would hold the Hurricanes off for the whole period and conclude this one with a 2-0 lead...but that wouldn't last.

Let me foreshadow this second period by saying that Daniil Tarasov was all over the crease and working his butt off, but eventually, the Hurricanes would break through, and once they did they didn't hold back. Once S. Jarvis got his seventeenth goal this season on a powerplay at 2:48, there was a spark, and you never want to give the Hurricanes a spark at home, ever. Why? You'll see. On this goal, the primary assist went to S. Aho, his thirty-third this season while the secondary went to M. Necas, his thirty-eighth this season. Some Ceaser magic would take place to give the Hurricanes their tying goal at 7:11, and I mention Ceaser because this goal would come from former Jacket, E. Robbinson, becoming his eleventh this season. S. Jarvis would add his second point tonight on the primary, giving him nineteen this season while A. Andersen would add his first assist this season on the secondary. The Hurricanes would gain their first lead tonight at 7:58 with goal number eleven this season for J. Blake. S. Aho would add his second assist tonight and thirty-fourth this season on the primary and only assist on this third goal for the Hurricanes. S. Aho would then get his goal, taking his home team up 4-2 at 8:33 and this was his fifteenth goal this season. The only assist on this goal would become the second point tonight for J. Blake,, his fifth assist this season and the only on this goal. The Hurricanes weren't done yet though as they made it a straight five goals with number nine at 11:34 by J. Martinook. S. Jarvis would add his third point this period with the primary assist, his twentieth this season, and J. Staal would add his sixteenth this season on the secondary. With the game 5-2, it wasn't looking good for the Jackets who started this game so strong, but don't count them out just yet. James van Riemsdyk would add his second point tonight with his tenth goal this season at 13:21. Kent Johnson would add his second assist tonight and his sixteenth this season on the primary while Jack Johnson would add his second assist tonight and fourth this season on the secondary. The Jackets would then cut the Hurricanes' lead to just one goal with the final goal of this period at 14:43 thanks to Dimitri Voronkov's eighteenth this season. Zach Werenski would jump back on the scoresheet with his thirty-eighth assist this season on the primary while Adam Fantilli would add his second assist tonight and his fourteenth this season. So, after the very long paragraph and an even longer period two, the score would settle at 5-4 Hurricanes.

The Jackets would do a decent job fending the Hurricanes off through the first half of the third period, but they wouldn't score, and eventually, at 11:13, the Hurricanes would gain back their two-goal lead. The goal would become number ten this season for J. Kotkanlemi's tenth this season and the only assist would become number thirty-nine for M. Necas, his second tonight. At 18:08, S. Jarvis would close the game with an empty net goal, giving him a 2-2-4 night and his eighteenth goal this season. This would take the Hurricanes to a 7-4 lead. The primary assist would go to A. Svechnikov and become his nineteenth assist this season while J. Staal would add his second point tonight and seventeenth assist this season on the secondary. The 7-4 lead would become final less than two minutes later.

The Jackets close this road trip 1-2-1 with three points across four games. It isn't the best, but could've been worse for the teams they faced on this trip. The Jackets travel home for a quick game against the L.A. Kings. That game will be Saturday with a game start of 7:00 p.m. That night also happens to be Star Wars night; hopefully, the force will be with the Jackets. (Sorry, I had to!)

Go CBJ!
