Columbus Blue Jackets @ St. Louis Blues: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 43

After a funfilled week of wins at the Pittsburgh Penguins and home against the visiting Seattle Kraken, the Jackets would look to win their fourth overall game, and several players would look to continue or start point streaks. The Jackets got off to a great start when Adam Fantilli entered the double-digit goal club at 1538 with his tenth this season! Kirill Marchenko goes to at least a point in the last four games with the primary assist on this goal, his twenty-ninth this season while Dimitri Voronkov would also extend his total to four games straight with at least a point as he takes the secondary assist, his thirteenth this season. With no other goals in the opening period, the Jackets would take a one-goal lead into period two.

History would repeat itself as there would be one goal in period two, and it would belong to the visiting Jackets as well! This time, though, the Jackets' Cole Sillinger would capitalize on the powerplay! This would be Cole Sillinger's seventh goal of the season, and after missing the last game due to illness, it's safe to say he's back! James van Riemsdyk would add the primary assist to his total this season, giving him nine total, three of which he's gained in just the game against the Kraken and tonight! Luca Del Bel Belluz would add his second assist this season with the secondary, ensuring that he's had a point in every Jackets game he's appeared in so far this season! The Jackets would take a two-goal advantage into the final regulation period, in part to excellent goaltending, too. Elvis Merzlikins would get a well-earned rest at backup tonight, leaving Jet Greaves to play in his fifth game this season. As was announced yesterday, Daniil Tarasov switched places with him, going to the AHL Cleveland Monsters to get so ice time. I must say, the trade worked out well for Jet Greaves tonight as he showed brightly in the first two periods of play and didn't let up in period three, either.

A highlight of this period was the team killing a pivotal powerplay for a slashing call against Kevin Labanc at 7:50. Many others were blocked shots by players and Jet Greaves continued his focus in net. With the Blues net empty, Zach Werenski would be assessed a tripping penalty with just 1:37 to go. With just 0:12 left, a rebound off perfect Jet Greaves would give the Blues their first and only goal of the game. It would be a powerplay goal, the eighth this season for Blue' C. Parayko. Z. Bolduu would add his tenth assist this season on the primary while teammate J. Faulk would add his fourteenth on the secondary. Thankfully, the Jackets were able to take the rest of the clock away from the Blues. They would fail to tie and the Jackets win this close contest 2-1! Of course, I wanted to see Jet get his first shoutout in an NHL net, but it wasn't to be. What was? Another two points in the Jackets piggy bank, giving them 46 this season and counting!

Adam Fantilli, having scored the first goal tonight and finishing with a 1-0-1 earns tonight's Second Star of the Game.

Jet Greaves, who was robbed of his first shoutout, won the First Star of the Game. He finished with a .969 save percentage thanks to his 31 saves on the Blues' 32 shots on net.

One thing to watch, Zach Aton-Reese did leave after blocking a shot to the stomach area in period three. He remained out for the rest of the game. I hope he's okay.

Tonight makes four wins in a row! The next Jackets game will be Tuesday night as the Columbus Blue Jackets welcome the Philidelphia Flyers to Nationwide Arena. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.

GO CBJ!
