Seattle Kraken @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 42
After a win over nine years in the making at the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday, the Jackets would look to pick up right where they left off as they welcomed the Seattle Kraken to their home ice. Before the puck could drop, Owen Sillinger had to take his rookie lap. He's twenty-seven years old, and if that isn't the inspiration to follow your dreams, I don't know what is. I've seen him play in many prospect camps and, let me tell you, he's as nice as he is talented. Congratulations, Owen, and welcome to the National Hockey League.
Let me preface this by saying our Jackets did not disappoint! The first goal tonight would belong to Jackets' Sean Kuraly, his fourth this season, at 11:58! Ivan Provorov would add assist number sixteen with the primary assist on this goal while Mathiew Oliver would add his seventh with the secondary. If you blinked after this goal, you miss the Kraken's first of the evening. It would come at 12:08 by E. Tolvanen, his ninth goal this season. S. Wright would come away with his eleventh assist on the primary while J. McCann would add his seventeenth with the secondary. The remainder of this period would be quiet, and the 1-1 tie would hold till period two...until the Jackets cracked this game wide open!
Luca Del Bel Belluz would add his first goal of the season at 3:29! James van Riemsdyk adds his seventh assist on this goal with the primary while Damon Severson adds his twelfth this season with the secondary. Zach Werenski would extend his home point streak to sixteen games at 10:53 with his thirteenth goal this season! Adam Fantilli gets on the score sheet with his eleventh assist of the season with the primary and Dimitri Voronkov gets on there too with his twelfth assist on the secondary. 3-1 would be a thing of the past at 12:27 with Denton Mateychuk's first NHL Goal! James van Riemsdyke would add his second assist tonight and eighth this season with the primary while Luca Del Bel Belluz adds his first NHL Assist with the secondary. But, KJ (Kent Johnson) and the Jackets still weren't done. Forget 4-1 because it would be 5-1 Jackets a few minutes later, at 15:45, with Kent Johnson's eleventh goal this season! Zach Werenski continues to make his points with his thirty-fifth assist this season on the primary assist while Dante Fabro joins in the scoring, too, with his seventh assist this season on the secondary. After this goal, the Kraken would replace P. Grubauer in net with J. Daccord. Whew, what a period! A 5-1, four-goal lead by the Jackets heading into period three.
E. Telvanen would continue to be a challenge for the Jackets to contain, scoring his second goal tonight and tenth this season at 8:44. C. Stephenson would add his twenty-second assist of the season with the primary while B. Montour would add his fifteenth this season with the secondary. So, the Jackets would still hold a three-goal lead at this point. In the final seconds, when you were sure there was no way this team could put up six goals in regulation for a win AGAIN, enter into the chat Kirill Marchenko at 19:31 with his eighteenth goal this season! Denton Mateychuk adds his second point tonight and his second assist of the season with the primary. Also, this marks Denton Matychuk's first multipoint game with a 1-1-2 night! Good for him. With a 6-2 score, the final 00:29 would tick off the clock and that's another two points, 5th Line!
Elvis Merzlikins takes Third Star of the Game tonight with a .933 Save Percentage with 28 saves on the Kraken's 30 shots on net. This also marks his 15th win of the 2024-25 season.
Denton Mateychuk gets the Second Star of the Game tonight after his first NHL multipoint game, 1-1-2, which included his first NHL Goal. Congratulations to him!
Luca Del Bel Belluz captures the First Star of the Game tonight after his first NHL multipoint game, 1-1-2, including his first NHL Assist! Congratulations to him!
Thee Jackets have 44 points and will be on the hunt for more in St. Louis as we play some Saturday night hockey. The puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. Enjoy this win, Jackets'; you played a hell of a game!
GO CBJ!
