New York Rangers @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 66

Tonight would again not be the Columbus Blue Jackets night. A, Lafeniere would catch Daniil Tarasov out of the net, attempting to move the puck away from his goal, and pop the puck past him just 1:43 into the game. The only assist on A. Lafreniere's fifteenth goal this season belonged to M. Zibanejad, his thirty-fourth this season. The opening period would end with two failed attempts on the powerplay for the Blue Jackets, and a Rangers 1-0 lead. 

The Blue Jackets would come out fired up, but even with multiple good chances on net, none would convert for the home team. Wrose, former Blue Jacket, A. Panarin. would score his twenty-ninth goal this season at 11:36. A. Lafreniere would add an assist to his goal, his twenty-third this season on the primary while W, Borgen would add his seventh on the secondary. This period would have no other goals, and the Blue Jackets would face a fight not to be shut out again at home. 

Period three would be a repeat of period two, many chances but no goals for the home team. Then, at 14:38, V. Trocheck would add his nineteenth goal this season. A, Panarin would add an assist to his second period goal, his forty-second of the season on the primary. W. Cuylle would also add assist nineteen on the secondary. A couple minutes later, the Blue Jackets would be graced with yet another chance on the powerplay and pull Daniil Tarasov from the net at the same time. This would backfire. V. Trocheck would add his second goal this period, twentieth of the season, at 16:41. This would be a shorthanded, empty net goal. J. Miller would add his thirty-seventh assist this season on the primary while A, Fox would add his forty-fourth on the secondary. This would take the Rangers to a commanding 4-0 lead and that would go final less than 4 minutes later. The Blue Jackets are shut out for a second time in a row, at home, with the same score. Oof. 

The Blue Jackets fall out of the second Eastern Conference Wild Card spot, trailing the Rangers by 2 points. We have 70 points to their 72, but it is a slim margin and we can still catch them. 

Our next game will be on Monday, March 17th. With any luck, maybe St. Patrick's Day will bring the luck for this Blue Jackets team to not just get back into the win column, but also take two points from the visiting Detroit Red Wings who are also chasing us for a playoff spot. The game will start at 7:00 p.m. and I expect the Red Wings to come in heated after we beat them 5-3 on March 1st in the 2025 NHL Stadium Series!

Ottawa Senators @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 76

A few special moments before we begin the recap tonight. First, congratulations to Meredith Gaudreau, her children, and the extended Gaudreau family on the birth of Carter Michael Gaudreau. I sigh in relief, knowing that he is here and both mom and baby are doing well. I love seeing the photos of him with his big sister, Noa, and brother, Johnny Jr. In addition, the fact Carter was the same size and weight as his dad when born could move you to tears, it has me.  Another big moment tonight as the puck dropped; congratulations to Erik Gudbranson on game 800 of his NHL Career! Zach Werenski Adds Another Achievement to His 2024-25 NHL Season

Normally, I have to share articles by the NHL because I'm usually working when this kind of news is announced, but today, I'm not! Zach Werenski is proving to doubters that this NHL Season will go down as one of the best in his career. Today, we learned of another achievement he's added to the long list of record-breaking moments, point streaks, and team-leading assists and total points. Zach Werenski, across the league, has added the Third Star of January to this list now, too. Aside from his spectacular goal last night to clench the win for his team in overtime at the Utah Hockey Club, the man has poured on the points in the first month of 2025. His total for just 31 days was six goals and eleven assists for a grand total of seventeen points. He accomplished this over the span of just fourteen games.
