Daniil Tarasov Traded to Florida Panthers

Over four seasons and 65 total games in net for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Goaltender Daniil Tarasov has had his highs and lows. He will now look for more highs than lows as he travels to Florida to play for the two-time Stanley Cup Champion Panthers. There, he will likely backup another former Blue Jackets goaltender, Vezina winner, and fellow Russian, Sergei Bobrovsky. Personally, I think it's a change of ice that Tarasov needs, and I wish him nothing but the best. 

The 26-year-old goalie ends his time in Columbus with an overall 19 wins, 34 losses, and 6 overtime losses. He started 61 of the 65 games he appeared in net for the Jackets. He had a .898 save percentage with 3.44 goals allowed on average over his career here. In his most recent season, 2024-25, he had 7 wins, 9 losses, and 2 overtime losses when starting 19 of the 20 games he appeared in. These numbers weren't far off from his previous season, 2023-24, where he won 8 games, lost 11, and had 3 overtime losses. Again, he'd start 23 of the 24 games he played in that season as well.

 I think what sold Tarasov to the Panthers organization is that he has shown he can beat big-name teams like the New York Rangers and Vegas Golden Knights. Also, he didn't have a dramatic dip in losses this season compared to last when he played a majority of his NHL career games. Yes, he's plated, but with a mentor like Sergei Bobrovsky, and more opportunities to play in a fresh environment, I think he has a chance to do memorable things in this league.

The 2024 Trade Deadline gives and takes away every season. Today, the Columbus Blue Jackets signed Sean Monahan to a deal that will last five years and give him a 5.5 Million AAV. Rest in Peace, Johnny and Mathew Gaudreau- Part One

I've learned something over the roughly two and a half weeks since we lost Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Mathew; I will never be ready to write this blog. I've been avoiding this because my words seem hollow and empty to me; like anything I could say would be redundant and not enough. August 29th, 2024 will forever be burned into my brain alongside July 4th, 2021, the date we lost goaltender, Matiss Kivlenieks, in a firework accident when he used himself to shield others. To say this franchise and its fans have suffered too many tragedies since I started covering the team in May 2020 is an understatement. Carson Meyer and Adam Boqvist Latest Blue Jackets to Depart Columbus

It's sad to see another Ohio-grown hockey player leave the Columbus Blue Jackets, but I hope the 26-year-old will find new drive and opportunity in Anaheim. Carson Meyer leaves us for the Ducks after playing 14 games in the 2023-24 Columbus Blue Jackets regular season. Over that time, he had a goal and an assist for two points. He had more time and success with our AHL team, the Cleveland Monsters, where he played 55 games in their 2023-24 Season. Over that time, he had 22 goals and 15 assists for 37 points. He still has time to make his mark on the NHL, and that could start with his one-year deal out in California. AAV (Average Annual Value) has yet to be given for this deal, but if I see it tonight, I'll update this post.
