Dante Fabbro Inks Deal to Stay in Columbus

Fans have been waiting for word as to whether some key players would remain in Columbus with the Blue Jackets or test free agency which opens on Tuesday, July 1st. Late this afternoon, the team announced that a key defenseman has inked a deal to stay! Dante Fabbro, who had a one-year contract to play in Columbus last season, renewed today for 4 more, equaling out to $16.5 Million. It will give the 27-year-old defenseman just over $4 Million a season.

In his one season with the Blue Jackets, Fabbro took part in 62 games during the regular season. In that time, he had 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points. Most impressive, he finished the season with a +23 as a defenseman.

As time inches closer to July 1st, the fact we have Dante Fabbro finally locked down is encouraging. The time to finalize a contract with another key defenseman and fan favorite, Ivan Provorov, is shrinking. I'd love to see him return, but if he doesn't, I could see Dante Fabbro and Zach Werenski being a dynamic duo on the team's top line.

Congratulations, #15, we're thrilled to see you stay in Columbus!
