Washington Capitals @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2025 Preseason Game 6

With a loaded roster, the Columbus Blue Jackets would face off against the Washington Capitals in the last preseason game of 2025. Unfortunately, the Capitals would be the first on the board with a goal at 8:25 from Conner McMichael. David Gucciardi and Tome Wilson would come away with the first Capitals' assists of the evening. The Capitals would then double up with the final goal of the period at 17:25. This goal would be the first power play goal of the game as well, and the credit would go to Andrew Cristall. Conner McMichael would become the first player of the night with a multi-point night, scoring the primary assist on the second Capitals' goal. The secondary assist would go to Daclan Chisholm. The Blue Jackets would go into Period 2 without a goal, but that would quickly change.

For the first time this preseason, the cannon would go BOOM for Captain Boone Jenner! His goal would be the first power play goal of the evening for the Jackets, and he'd score it at 7:52. Kent Johnson would add his first assist of the preseason with the primary, while Zach Werenski would add his third of the preseason on the secondary. This game was far from over, as Iiya Protas would take back the two-goal lead for his Capitals at 10:10. This would be his first goal of the preseason, and it would be a goal of his own with no assists. Seconds later, at 10:58, the Columbus Captain would prove he was happy to be back on the ice with his second power play goal of the night! Zach Werenski would again assist on this goal, giving him four this preseason. The secondary assist would go to Adam Fantilli, his first of the preseason. But, again, the Capitals would push back as Tom Wilson would add his own goal to the score sheet at 13:36. This goal would have no assists and leave the Jackets down again at home, 4-2, but with momentum and another regulation period to go.

To this point, if you only looked at the score, you'd question the Jackets' play this evening. You shouldn't. The team was playing with confidence, motivation, and grind. Impressive considering this is the preseason and the roster cuts are basically complete. The push and drive the team had tonight makes me excited for the season ahead, as does Mathieu Olivier's goal at 12:23! This would become his second goal of the preseason and take the Capitals' lead down to a single goal. Damon Severson and Cole Sillinger would each come away with the first assists of the preseason on this goal. Sadly, the Jackets couldn't come up with a tying goal and would lose a close game tonight; 4-3 Capitals over Jackets was the final.

Jet Greaves would stay in the home net all night for the Jackets. He'd have 19 saves on the 23 Capitals shots that made it to his net. His game gave him an .826 save percentage for the night. Not his best, but there were moments out of his control that resulted in goals against him. On the other end, Logan Thompson would be put through a workout thanks to the Jackets' offense. They sent 37 shots his way, 34 of which he'd manage to stop. His game gave him a 0.919 save percentage.

Conner McMichael would come away with the Third Star of the Game, thanks to his 1-1-2 in the first period.

Capitals' Goalie, Logan Thompson, would get the Second Star of the Game with his .919 save percentage.

The First Star of the Game would go to the Columbus Captain and power play master of the night, Boone Jenner, who went 2-0-2 and scored both his goals on the Jackets' power plays! Congratulations, Boone!

The preseason will come to an end with a road trip to Washington to face the Capitals in their home arena on Saturday. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. and I'll have a recap for you postgame right here.

Go CBJ!
