Pittsburgh Penguins @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 24

This was a fast game full of goals. Sicney Crosby, the one and only, would score first tonight at 6:10. The only assist on this goal would belong to Kris Latang. The goal for Crosby would be his fourteenth this season, while the assist for Latang would be his eighth. Before this opening period ended, Sean Monahan would score goal number three of his season at 13:40, tying the game at 1-1! Brendan Smith would get his first assist as a Blue Jacket on the primary, while Damon Severson would add his seventh this season on the secondary.

Period 2 would belong to the Blue Jackets. They'd score two goals this period and allow the Penguins nothing. Kent Johnson would go to the box at 2:46 for tripping Kevin Hayes, but instead of the Penguins' scoring on their power play, Brendan Gaunce would get his first goal this season shorthanded! Miles Wood adds assist number two to his season on this goal, while Zach Werenski adds assist number fifteen to his on the secondary. Then, at the end of the period with seconds left, Zach Werenski would again turn his night multipoint with goal nine of his season at 19:56! Charlie Coyle would get the only assist on this goal, his twelfth this season.

The Blue Jackets would take another lead, this time 3-1, into the third period. But, again, protecting a lead would plague the Blue Jackets. Bryan Rust would come out of the Penguins' locker room and score at 00:13. This would give him his seventh goal this season, and bring his visiting team within a goal of our home Blue Jackets. Erik Karlsson would have the only assist on this goal, giving him his fourteenth of the season. Sidney Crosby would then find that third goal tonight, tying us at 3-3 with his fifteenth goal this season at 8:27. Tommy Novak adds assist number six of his season on the primary, while Parker Wotherspoon adds assist number seven to his on the secondary. The 3-3 tie holds, and again the Blue Jackets get a point, but also give their opponent one as we head to overtime for a second up for grabs...again!

It would take seconds for the Penguins to close this game out, winning 4-3 just 00:59 into the extra hockey period. Kris Letang would bang home goal number two of his season, and the only assist on his game-winning goal would become the second tonight and seventh of the season for Tommy Novak. So, the Blue Jackets get a point, but let another slip away tonight. I still think this team is on the climb to greatness; all of these close games are proof of that. It's just painful to watch our boys gain a solid lead and let it slip away in the final period.

Zach Werenski, with his goal and assist, takes the Third Star of the Game. Kris Latang, with his game-winning overtime goal and assist in regulation, captures the Second Star of the Game. Sidney Crosby, with his two goals tonight, skates away with the First Star of the Game.

The Blue Jackets will play again on Monday night. With it being the 25th Game of Season 25, I hope it'll be a fun night even as we play on the road against the New Jersey Devils at 7:00 p.m.

Go CBJ!
