Toronto Maple Leafs @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 23
Tonight, we're thankful for a great game, 5th Line. It would start with a rookie lap for a new Blue Jacket. Luca Pinelli, welcome to the NHL!
It would take until Period 3 for either team to have a good goal. I say that because the Blue Jackets had a goal in Period 2 from Zach Werenski, but it wouldn't stand as the Leafs would challenge after seeing the Blue Jackets were offside. The score would return to 0-0 until Zach Werenski's eighth goal of his season at 13:30 in Period 3 couldn't be questioned! The only assist on this goal would become the first this season for Miles Wood! Unfortunately, Easton Cowan would score the second goal of his season at 16:43, tying us again, but at 1-1. This goal would have two assists. The primary would go to William Nylander and become his twentieth this season, while John Tavares would add his sixteenth assist this season on the secondary. With no goals in the final few minutes for either team, each would pick up a point and go to overtime for a second!
The overtime period was fast and exciting, but with seconds left, at 4:41, William Nylander would add goal eleven to his season and his second of the night. The last goal of the game would have two assists, the primary going to Oliver Ekman-Larson, his fourteenth this season, and the secondary to Mathew Knies, his eighteenth this season. It's a bummer, but at least the Blue Jackets got a point tonight, and 5/6 possible against the Leafs this season, as they will not meet again in the regular season. So, as a whole, I'm impressed with this series for our Blue Jackets.
The Third Star of the Game would go to Jet Greaves. He finished the night with 22 saves on the Maple Leafs' 24 shots on his home net. This equaled out to a .917 save percentage.
The Second Star of the Game would go to William Nylander, who finished with a 1-1-2 night, including his game-winning overtime goal.
The First Star of the Game would go to the Maple Leafs' goalie, Joseph Woll. The Blue Jackets threw 36 pucks at his visitor's net, and he stopped 35 of them. This would give him a .972 save percentage.
Our next game will be on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. against our rival Pittsburgh Penguins! This will be at home, so I love that our guys can spend Thanksgiving in Ohio with their families or with each other if family is far away. Have a fun and safe Thanksgiving, 5th Lin; I'm thankful for every single one of you!
Go CBJ!
