Ottawa Senators @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 29

The Blue Jackets would start this game with the first two shots on goal and looking dominant on home ice, but that would change quickly as David Perron would score his fourth goal this season at 6:58 after slipping the puck between Elvis Merzlikins's padding. Dylan Cozens would get to add his eleventh assist on the primary, while Drake Batherson would add his sixteenth with the secondary on the first goal tonight. This goal would start a hemerage of sorts for the Blue Jackets in Period 1. Drake Batherson would have a 1-1-2 night at just 8:11 into Period 1 after scoring his thirteenth goal this season. His goal would take the visiting  Senators to a 2-0 lead. David Perron would also gain a 1-1-2 night with this goal, as he adds the primary assist on this goal to his total tonight, giving him eleven assists this season. The secondary assist would also give Dylan Cozens an early 0-2-2 night, and his twelfth assist this season. A few minutes later, Charlie Coyle would be sent to the box after he held David Perron, and the Senators would add yet another goal. T Stitzle would add his thirteenth goal on the power play at 14:55. Drake Batherson would jump to a 1-2-3 night after adding his sixteenth assist to his season on the primary, while Dylan Cozens goes 0-3-3 after adding his thirteenth assist this season on the secondary. With the score 3-0 in favor of the visiting team, the Blue Jackets would elect to switch Elvis Merzlikins for Jet Greaves in the home net. This would spark the Blue Jackets as they'd finally add their own goal to the scoreboard, making it 3-1. Boone Jenner, the Blue Jackets' Captain who hasn't played a game since November 11th, scored goal number four of his season at 18:04. Adam Fantilli enters the double-digits in the assist column with his tenth on the primary, while Zach Werenski gets his twenty-second assist on the secondary. It was a skate in the right direction for the home team, but before the period could close out, the Senators would add yet another goal, maintaining their three-goal road lead. This goal would become number seven this season for Michael Amadio. Claude Giroux would pick up assist number fourteen of his season, while teammate Ridly Greig gets his seventh this season on the secondary. Period 1 would conclude with the Blue Jackets leading in shots, 9-7, but down 4-1.

If the Blue Jackets get credit for anything tonight, it's their second period. Down 4-1 at home, the Blue Jackets could've easily accepted that this game was over, but they didn't. Instead, at 3:02, Dante Fabbro would come out and score goal number two of his season. Boone Jenner, who plays in his first game tonight since November 11th, adds assist number eight to his season with the primary, while Kent Johnson adds his fourth with the secondary. Then, at 8:10, Dimitri Voronkov makes his twelfth goal this season, a power play goal, due to the Senators having too many players on the ice! Kirill Marchenko gets his sixteenth assist this season with the primary, while Zach Werenski gets his second assist tonight at twenty-third this season with the secondary. Unfortunately, that's where the comeback would end, as the Senators would return to a two-goal lead at 17:59. The goal would be the second tonight, fourteenth this season, for Tim Stitzle. Michael Amadio gets a 1-1-2 night with the primary assist on this goal, his sixth this season, and Artem Zub gets assist number nine added to his season with the secondary. The Senators lead shots in this period 12-11, and the game, 5-3.

The only goal in this final period of the game would come with Jet Greaves out of the net at 18:37. The empty net goal would become the fifth this season for Claude Giroux, giving him a 1-1-2 night. Michael Amadio gets another assist tonight, his seventh this season, finishing with a 1-2-3 night. The Senators would finish this period with winning the shots on goal battle again, 10-6.

Boone Jenner, on his first night back, gets the Third Star of the Game after a 1-1-2 night.

Drake Batherson gets the Second Star of the Game with his 1-2-3 night.

Tim Stitzle rounds out the stars tonight, getting the First Star of the Game, after a 2-0-2 night.

The Blue Jackets need to swallow this loss and focus on Saturday. The Vegas Golden Knights will be ready to fight for two points as they continue to fight to keep their top spot in the Pacific Division. The game will start at Nationwide Arena at 7:00 p.m.
