Dallas Stars @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 1/22/26

First, we'll take a moment to congratulate a game-changing player who has greatly helped this team since being traded to Columbus. Tonight, Charlie Coyle celebrates his 1,000th NHL Game. It's a career milestone that not many players reach. During his time in the league, Charlie has scored 199 goals and 316 assists for a total of 515 points. He also holds an overall +/- of +45. In his 49 games this season, he currently sits at ten goals and twenty assists for thirty points. He's been so impressive since coming here from Colorado, and I'm excited to see what else he does as a Blue Jacket and in this league before his career sunsets. Congratulations, again, Charlie!

Tonight's game can be summed up in one word: Competitive. Just over eight minutes into the game, our Number 8, Zach Werenski, would score goal number nineteen of his season! On this goal at 8:48, Damon Severson would get to add his sixteenth assist on the primary, while Isac Lundestrom gets to add his sixth assist on the secondary. The Blue Jackets would carry this single-goal lead into Period 2, and then Period 3 after Period 2 remained scoreless! See, I told you it was a competitive game. To further this point, shots on goal in Period 1 were in favor of the Blue Jackets, 9-6, while shots on goal in Period 2 were in favor of the Stars, 12-7.

The Stars would push in Period 3, but Jet Greaves would come up with some impressive saves to protect the Blue Jackets' single-goal lead. With a little over three minutes left in the game, the Stars would call goaltender Casey DeSmith to the bench for a bonus player. The Stars again would push for the tying goal, but the Blue Jackets and Jet Graves would say NO! Unfortunately, so would the refs as Charlie Coyle sent the puck into the empty net, but it was offside! Although disappointing to not see Charlie Coyle score a goal in his 1,000th NHL Game, the shutout win against a skilled top Stars team is just as good! The Blue Jackets win 1-0! The Stars would win the shots on goal battle in this final period, 10-6, but it doesn't matter because it's a SHUTOUT for our Blue Jackets!

Something I have to share because it'ss just too funny, and shows the closeness of our Columbus team. Charlie Coyle tried to go back to the lockerroom following the win, and his teammates blocked him from leaving the ice, making him take a victory lap. I love that so much!

In honor of his 1,000th NHL Game, Charlie Coyle is your Third Star of the Game tonight in Columbus.

Jet Graves gets the perfect 1.00 save percentage with his 28 saves on 28 Dallas Stars shots on his home net! With his stunning performance, he gets the Second Star of the Game!

With the only goal of the game, Zach Werenski takes the First Star of the Game!

The Blue Jackets will host the Tampa Bay Lightning, and I suggest they pack the warmest clothing they own because Ohio's about to get a serious taste of January hockey weather. If you're going to the game, be safe! The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m., and if anything changes due to the weather, I will share it on my Facebook and X accounts.

GO CBJ!
