Philadelphia Flyers @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 1/28/26
The Blue Jackets would waste no time on the National TNT Broadcast tonight. Charlie Coyle would continue his spotlight week with yet another goal, his twelfth this season, just 00:38 into the game! The primary assist would get Mathieu Oliver on the scoresheet with his eighth this season, while Zach Werenski continues his domination with assist number thirty-seven this season on the secondary. It would take nearly half the period before the Blue Jackets would allow the Flyers to get on the ice, but when they did, the Flyers would tie the game at 1-1 after Travis Konecny scored goal number eighteen of his season. The goal, at 9:03, would give Cam York his eighteenth assist this season on the primary, while Noah Juulsen would add his eighth assist on the secondary. The opening period wouldn't end in a tie as Kirill Marchenko would score at 19:40! Another primary assist for Zach Werenski would give him thirty-eighth this season, and yet another multipoint game. Adam Fantilli picks up the secondary assist, bringing him to the scoresheet with his twenty-first this season. The final 00:20 would tick away, and the Blue Jackets would carry a single-goal lead into the second period. The shots on goal would be tied at 7-7 to this point in the game.
Again, the Blue Jackets would carry over the energy from Period 1 into Period 2, scoring earlyby way of Erik Gudbranson! He's dealt with injuries so much this year, and this marks his first goal of the season; congratulations! His goal at 1:58 gets Cole Sillinger on the scoresheet with his sixteenth assist this season on the primary, while the secondary assist brings Charlie Coyle to a multipoint night (1-1-2) thanks to his twenty-third this season. This period would hold a lot of defense and incredible saves by Flyers' goalie, Dan Vladar, and Blue Jackets' goalie, Elvis Merzlikins. The Result: No further goals this period, but that's okay because the Blue Jackets would double their lead ahead of the final regulation period to 3-1! Further, the Blue Jackets would run this period's shots on goal, 16-6.
To this point in Period 3, the Blue Jackets had successfully killed off two power-play opportunities for the Flyers, but the third would result in a goal for the visiting team. With Mason Marchment in the box for hooking Owen Tippett, Travis Konecny would add his second goal tonight, nineteenth overall, to the scoresheet. Christian Dvorak adds his twenty-first assist this season with the primary, while Jamie Drysdale adds his eighteenth assist this season on the secondary. So, it would be a 3-2 Blue Jackets lead at this point, and not for a lack of trying on our home team's part, as goaltender Dan Vladar kept the Flyers in this game with some incredible saves this period. With less than half the period left, at 12:04, the Blue Jackets would be shot again with Kent Johnson in the box after high-sticking Cam York. Thankfully, this would be the third power play the Blue Jackets would kill off, but a few minutes later, Travis Konecny would complete his hat-trick. His third goal at 4:08 would become his twentieth this season. Travis Sanheim gets on the scoresheet with his seventeenth assist this season on the primary, while Christian Dvorak gets his twenty-second assist on the primary. But don't worry, 5th Line, we're not done yet! Have no fear, because at 16:32, Sean Monahan's ninth goal this season is here! Damon Severson gets his seventeenth assist this season on the primary, while Kent Johnson gets his eleventh on the secondary. And right there are three men who weren't on the scoresheet but now are. The Flyers wouldn't let up, bringing their goalie, Dan Vladar, to the bench. The Blue Jackets' Mathieu Olivier would then extend the lead to 5-3 with his fifth goal this season, sailing into an empty Flyers' net at 16:53! This gives him a 1-1-2 night, and Cole Sillinger, with the only assist on the empty net goal, gets his second assist tonight, seventeenth this season. The Flyers would win the final shots on goal battle, 13-8, but the Blue Jackets would win where it mattered, the scoreboard. The Blue Jackets win 5-3 for two more regulation points on National TV! I love that even when the Flyers clawed back with a player getting a hat-trick, they didn't stop pushing and closed out this game and got their two points!
With the early first goal of the game, and an assist too, Charlie Coyle gets the Third Star of the Game.
With his hat-trick, which is an accomplishment on the road, Travis Konecny gets the Second Star of the Game.
With the game-winning-goal in the final minutes of Period 3, Sean Monahan is our First Star of the Game!
For those keeping track, Head Coach Rick Bowness is now 6-1-0. The Blue Jackets have also won their last three games, one being a shutout. Our Blue Jackets will have to travel to Chicago for their next game on Friday. The puck will drop against the Blackhawks at 8:30 p.m.
GO CBJ!!!
