Boston Bruins @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 3/29/26

Last night's loss was disappointing; there's no other way to say it. The San Jose Sharks came back to tie the game, then won with 1:25 to play, stung. The good news is that we are still in a playoff spot going into our home game tonight against the Bruins.

Our Blue Jackets would come out renewed and ready to put last night in the past where it belongs. Camptain Boone Jenner would make the cannon bang at 6:17 with goal eleven of his season! Conor Garland would add his twenty-first assist to his season total with the only assist on the Blue Jackets' first goal tonight. This goal would be followed by a second tip-in goal at 7:45 from Mason Marchment, marking goal eighteen of his season! Ivan Provorov gets his twenty-first assist this season on the primary, while Kirill Marchenko adds his thirty-fifth assist on the secondary. Then, we'd have a fight between Erik Gudbranson of our Blue Jackets and Tanner Jeannot of the Bruins at 17:35! Both men would get five-minute majors for fighting. But, hold on, we're not done yet! Mathieu Oliver of our Blue Jackets and Mark Kastelic of the Bruins would fight at 17:41! Both men would get five-minute fighting majors, too! At 18:45, the Bruins would also lose David Pastrnak to the box for tripping Zach Werenski. During this power play, Charlie Coyle would make it 3-0 with goal number eighteen of his season! The goal at 19:32 would give Kirill Marchenko his second assist tonight, thirty-sixth this season, on the primary, and Mason Marchment would add a secondary assist to his goal earlier this period, giving him twenty this season. The period would conclude with that huge 3-0 lead for our Blue Jackets, and they'd also lead in scoring, too, 12-8.

The Bruins would lead shots on goal in Period 2, 12-5, but they'd have nothing to show for it as the score would remain in favor of our Blue Jackets, 3-0. Don't count those two points yet, though, 5th Line, because the Bruins would find their game in Period 3 and make this a game.

Charlie McAvroy would start the Bruins' push for a win at 6:29 with goal number eleven of his season. Pavel Zacha would add assist thirty-one to his season on the primary, while Viktor Arvidsson would add his twenty-fourth assist this season on the secondary. Not long after, we'd lose Cole Sillinger to the penalty box at 8:37 for two minutes after he was called for slashing Bruins' Fraser Minten. Seconds later, at 8:42, Pavel Zacha would add his twenty-first goal of the season to his earlier assist, cutting our lead to 1 goal. Charlie McAvroy would add his forty-sixth assist this season on the primary to his earlier goal, while Viktor Arvidsson would add his second assist tonight and twenty-fifth this season, on the secondary. With Jeremy Swayman on the bench, with just over a minute to go, a play would be reviewed, not challenged, but reviewed, to be sure the puck didn't get past the goal line and Jet Greaves. Thankfully, it did not, and we'd play on with the Blue Jackets still leading 3-2. But then Boone Jenner would go to the penalty box for a 2-minute tripping call, and at 19:48, Pavel Zacha would steal the puck from Charlie Coyle and add his second power play goal in a row, tying this game at 3-3. This would be his twenty-eighth goal this season, and Viktor Arvidsson would add assist number three to his night, twenty-sixth this season. The Bruins, of course, dominated shots on goal in this final regulation period, too, 12-5. And, of course, no one scored in the last 00:12, so to overtime we go!

The Blue Jackets would lead shots on goal again in the overtime period, 5-2. Given the weekend the Blue Jackets have had, I'm sure you're just as surprised as I am that this game wouldn't be decided in overtime. To a shootout we go!

Round 1

Adam Fantilli would miss. Fraser Minten would SCORE. Boston 1-0

Round 2

Kirill Marchenko would miss. Casey Mittelstadt would miss. Boston 1-0

Round 3

Charlie Coyle would SCORE. Unfortunately, Viktor Arvidsson would too. 2-1, Boston wins the shootout and the second point.

The Third Star of the Game would be the only star tonight for a Blue Jacket: Mason Marchment had a 1-1-2 night. Congratulations to him.

The Second Star of the Game would go to Bruins Pavel Zacha, who had two goals and an assist in the third period.

The First Star of the Game would go to Viktor Arvidsson, who had three assists tonight, one on every Boston goal in the third period.

It's unfortunate because the Blue Jackets had this game. The third period is coming back to haunt us again, and I really hope Rick Bowness has an idea of how to fix it. That said, this was the second of a back-to-back, and even though the team didn't travel, two games in two days is a lot. We'll just have to wait and watch how other teams do tomorrow, and hope the Blue Jackets can pull off a win Tuesday night as the Hurricanes come to town from Carolina.

One bit of good news, with 88 points, we do keep our Wildcard 2 spot in the Eastern Conference. Hopefully that holds true till Tuesday night.

Go CBJ!
