L.A. Kings @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 3/9/26

Hello, 5th Line!

So, I missed the first two periods of hockey this afternoon due to work. That said, I will backtrack to congratulate our newest Blue Jacket, Connor Garland, on his first two goals with our franchise! I was excited when we picked him up, and knew he'd be a good fit here.

Period 3 would have several good chances for the Blue Jackets to break the 3-3 tie, but the Kinga goaltender, Anton Forsberg, would continue to show off in his visitors' net.  Then, at 10:07, Brian Dumoulin would add goal number two to his season. Mikey Anderson would come away with his ninth assist this season on the primary, while Scott Laughton would come away with his fifth assist this season on the secondary. But, with the minutes ticking down, Scott Laughton would take a costly penalty for interference against Mason Marchment at 16:43, and Kirill Marchenko's twenty-third goal of the season would follow at 18:04! Zach Werenski adds yet another assist to his season, number forty-six, with the primary, while Charlie Coyle does the same, adding his thirty-fourth, on the secondary. The tie would hold, and we'd go to overtime for the second home game in a row!

The Kings would rule this overtime. They would have 2 shots on goal in this overtime compared to our 0, and that second shot would sadly end this game. Addrian Kempe would get the puck, fresh off the bench, and score his twenty-fifth goal this season at 2:34. Former Blue Jacket and Ranger, new Kings player, Artemi Panarin, would add his forty-fourth assist to his season with the primary, while Drew Daughty adds his thirteenth assist this season on the secondary. The final in Nationwide Arena was 5-4 Kings in overtime.

Adrian Kempe, with two goals, one being the overtime game-winner, is the Third Star of the Game.

The newest Blue Jacket, Conor Garland, gets the Second Star of the Game after scoring two goals in his second game here!

Brian Dumoulin gets the First Star of the Game, thanks to his goal and two assists today.

Oof, this one hurts, but at least they got a point, which continues our point streak to six games. We do gain on the Boston Bruins, putting us just 2 points behind them for the second wildcard spot. It's better than being behind them by 3 points, which is how the day started, but to only be behind them by 1 would've been sweet. That said, the Blue Jackets will now fly to Florida for a meeting with the Lightning in Tampa Bay tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. It's a chance that the Blue Jackets can't take lightly as the Kings now fly to Boston for a game tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m., too. In an ideal world for the Blue Jackets, the Kings would win on the road and take the 2 points from the Bruins, and we'd beat the Lightning on the road, tying the two teams in the standings, but we'll just have to see how things work out tomorrow night!

Go CBJ!
