New York Rangers @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 3/19/26
After a dominant win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, 5-1, the Blue Jackets would look to continue their push for points and a playoff spot. Tonight, the Blue Jackets wouldn't have the best start. Rangers' Tye Kartye would high-stick Blue Jackets' Mason Marchment just 4:53 into the game. A goal would come out of this power play, but it wouldn't belong to the Blue Jackets. Rangers' Vincent Trocheck would add his fifteenth goal this season, giving his team an early 1-0 road lead, thanks to his shorthanded goal at 5:41. This goal would have no assists. The Blue Jackets would break through with their first goal tonight at 14:33, and it would become the fourth this season for Isac Lundestrom. Now, the NHL changed the assists on this goal around Period 3. After said update, this goal would have only one assist, going to our Captain, Boone Jenner, for his twenty-first this season. Then, seconds left in the opening period, Conor Garland would shoot a puck that would bounce off Rangers' Braden Schneider and go into the Rangers' net! This would be Conor Garland's fifth goal since joining the Blue Jackets on March 6th, his twelth this season. Also, this goal would give the Blue Jackets thir firrst lead of the night! Zach Werenski would have the only assist on this goal, and it would be his fiftieth this season! Fun fact: Zach Werenski is only the second player to have two fifty-assist seasons in our franchise's history, joining Artemi Panarin. The Blue Jackets would not only lead 2-1 when the clock hit 00:00, but also lead shots on goal this period, 14-8.
4:44 into Period 2, Mika Zibanejad would add his twenty-ninth goal this season, evening the score at 2-2. Alexis Lafreniere gets his twenty-seventh assist this season on the primary, while Gabe Perreault gets his thirteenth assist this season on the secondary. But, our Captain wouldn't let that tie stand for long, entering double digits with his tenth goal this season at 7:04! Danton Heinen adds his third assist this season with the primary on Boone Jenner's goal, while Ivan Provorov adds his nineteenth assist this season with the secondary. Then, towards the end of the period at 15:25, Adam Fantilli would score his twentieth goal this season on the power play while Rangers' Connor Mackey sat in the box for high-sticking Charlie Coyle! And, Charlie Coyle would be okay and continue playing, so that's always important, too. Zach Werenski gets his second assist of the night, fifty-first this season, with the primary, and Kirill Marchenko adds his thirty-third assist this season on the secondary! When this period closed, the Blue Jackets would lead 4-2 on the scoreboard and continue their lead in shots on goal, 13-12.
At exactly 20:00 in Period 2, a penalty would be called against Charlie Coyle for roughing Rangers Will Cuyile. At 00:50 into Period 3, Alexis Lafreniere would capitalize on the power play with his twentieth goal this season, giving himself a 1-1-2 night. Adam Fox adds his thirty-first assist this season with the primary, while Mika Zibanejad also earns a 1-1-2 night with the secondary assist, his thirty-seventh this season. The Rangers would get within a goal, but Damon Seveerson would turn the Blue Jackets' lead to two goals again with his sixth this season at 6:12. Cole Sillinger gets on the score sheet with his twenty-third assist this season with the primary, while Zach Werenski adds his third assist tonight, fifty-second this season, on the secondary. At 17:06, Adam Fantilli finishes off this game with an empty net goal, his second tonight and his twenty-first this season! Sean Monahan gets the only assist on that goal, his twenty-third this season. The Blue Jackets take this hard-fought game 6-3, and the 2 points that come with it! The final shots on goal battle would see the Blue Jackets double the Rangers, 10-5!
Adam Fantilli gets the Third Star of the game after his goal in Period 2 and his empty net goal in Period 3.
The Blue Jackets Captain, Boone Jenner, is awared the Second Star of the Game following his goal and assists.
Zach Werenski, with his three-assist night, gets the First Star of the Game! He currently sits at 20-52-72.
The Blue Jackets keep up the good fight, currently sitting with 83 points. Unfortunately, the two teams ahead of us in the standings both pulled off wins tonight, too, keeping their Wildcard spots. The Boston Bruuins won 6-1 over the Winnipeg Jets at home, giving them 84 points. The Detroit Red Wings also won tonight, 3-1 at home against the Montreal Canadians. This also gives them 84 points. However, the Islanders did not win tonight, losing 3-2 on the road at the Ottawa Senators. Due to our win history in the division, we take their 3rd spot in the Metropolitan Division! Crying, shaking as I write this, but the fight is far from over for our Columbus Blue Jackets. That said, let's enjoy this moment for the next forty-five hours before the next battle, shall we, 5th Line?
The Blue Jackets' next game will be a 5:00 p.m. start in Nationwide Arena against the Seattle Kraken. Every point matters, and so does the ELEVEN-GAME POINT STREAK!
GO CBJ!!!!!!!!!!!
