San Jose Sharks @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 3/28/26
So, I was still at work for most of Period 1. That said, congratulations to Denton Mateychuk, who scored just 00:31 into the game! This was goal twelve of his season, and it would also give Adam Fantilli his thirty-third assist this season. Of course, the Sharks are going to put up a fight. They would match that goal at 17:17, thanks to goal four of Igor Chernyshov's season. There would be just one assist on this goal as well, and it would go to Will Smith, giving him twenty-seven so far this season. The shots on goal in this opening period would be close, 9-8 in favor of our Blue Jackets.
There would be only one goal in the second period, and it would give our Blue Jackets back their one-goal lead! Cole Sillinger would add his eighth goal this season at 12:09! Ivan Provorov would have thee only assist on this goal, giving him his twentieth this season. The Blue Jackets would lead 2-1 at the end of this period, but the Sharks were in control of this period, winning shots on goal 18-8.
Early into the third period, at 00:54, Charlie Coyle would go to the box for 00:03 for tripping Sharks' Tyler Toffoli. Why do I say he was only there for three seconds? Because that's how long it took the Sharks to tie this game on the power play. If you know hockey, you know the name Macklin Celebrini, and this goal at 00:57 became his thirty-sixth this season. Dmitry Orlov would add assist number twenty-seven to his season with the primary, and former Blue Jacket, Alexander Wennberg, adds his thirty-second on the secondary. Then, when I was preparing for this to go to overtime, Igor Chernyshov scored his fifth goal this season at 18:35. Will Smith would add his second assist tonight, twenty-eighth this season, on the primary, while Macklin Celebrini added his sixty-second assist to his earlier goal on the secondary. The Blue Jackets would hold the Sharks in their zone for a good amount of the remaining 01:25, but no tying goal would come. The Sharks win on the road in regulation, 3-2. They would also win the shots on goal battle 10-6 in the final period.
The Third Star of the Game went to Macklin Celebrini, who had a goal and an assist in the third period.
The Second Star of the Game went to Elvis Merzlikins, who had a great night in net. He stopped 33 of the 36 Sharks' shots on his net. This game gave him a .917 save percentage.
The First Star of the Game was the Shark with two of their three goals, Igor Chernyshov.
This wasn't the vibe this team has had as of late. Their next game will be tomorrow night at home at 5:00 p.m. against the Boston Bruins. They are right on our stinger in the standings, and I would absolutely call tomorrow night a must-win. Hopefully, we can.
As of right now, we have slipped to Wildcard 2 from our Third Spot in the Metropolitan Division.
