Columbus Blue Jackets @ Detroit Red Wings: Season 25 4/7/26
Every game is a must-win as our Columbus Blue Jackets continue their chase for a playoff spot. The Blue Jackets would start off well, scoring the first goal in Detroit tonight. Danton Heinon would add goal number six to his season at 2:06! Mason Marchment would come away with the only assist on Danton Heinon's goal, his twenty-fourth of the season. Now, the Red Wings are also pushing for postseason play, and they'd match our goal at 10:27, tying this game at 1-1. Dylan Larkin would add his thirty-first goal to his season on a Red Wings power play as Conor Garland sat in the box for interference against J. T. Compher. Patrick Kane would add his thirty-fifth assist with the primary on this goal, while Moritz Seider would add his forty-sixth assist this season after picking up the secondary. The first period would conclude with that 1-1 tie on the scoreboard, and also a tie in shots on goal, 9-9.
At 6:27 into Period 2, the Red Wings would acquire their first lead of the night, going up 2-1 with Justin Faulk's thirteenth goal this season. Dylan Larkin would add an assist to his goal in the first period, giving him thirty, while Ben Chiarot would add his eighth assist this season on the secondary. But, at 10:59, it was our Blue Jackets' turn to score a tying goal on the power play! Zach Werenski would add goal twenty-two to his season. Denton Mateychuk would add his eighteenth assist to his season on the primary, while goaltender Jet Greaves would pick up his first assist of the season and his NHL career! What a great moment for him, congratulations, Jet! The Blue Jackets would lead shots on goal in the middle period, 15-12, while the score would be tied 2-2.
The game would come down to the final minutes of the period, appearing to head to overtime, when Jjstin Faulk would score his fourteenth goal this season at 15:14. This would give the home team, the Red Wings, back their lead, 3-2. Alex DeBrincat would add his forty-third assist this season on the primary, while Andrew Copp added his thirty-fourth assist this season on the secondary. Time would tick off the clock, and it would appear as if the Red Wings would win this game in regulation. But a faceoff win by Sean Monahan would set up another game-tying goal! At 19:43, Adam Fantilli would send this game to overtime with his twenty-third goal this season! Zach Werenski adds an assist to his earlier goal, his fifty-eighth assist this season, on the primary, while Kirill Marchenko adds his thirty-ninth assist this season on the secondary. The Red Wings would win shots on goal this period, 9-8. However, the main takeaway from this period is that the Blue Jackets would push back and get a point, with the chance to add a second in overtime!
10 shots on goal would happen in the five-minute overtime period. The Red Wings would have 7 of those shots, while the Blue Jackets would have 3. Guess what? No goals! So, on to a shootout we go, 5th Line!
