Colorado Avalanche @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 26 Game 13 Recap

It's lucky game 13 of the season. Does anyone else feel like the season is flying? Anyway, our Columbus Blue Jackets last played on the road Saturday and narrowly lost to the Dallas Stars, 3-2, in regulation. Tonight, the Blue Jackets would come out with a fire that could've melted ice. Mathieu Oliver would score the third goal of his season just 00:28 into period 1! Charlie Coyle would have the only assist on Mathieu Olivier's goal, his ninth of the season. At 7:37, Ivan Provorov would net his first goal of the season after missing the first 11 due to an injury in preseason play! This goal would come on the power play following the Avalanche being caught with too many men on the ice at 6:10. Conor Garland also gets his first assist of the season on the primary, while Valeri Nichushkin adds the sixth assist of his season against his former team on the secondary! Of course, the Avalanche won't give up that easy; superstar Cale Makar would score his fourth goal of his season at 10:57. Nathan MacKinnon, another Colorado superstar, would gain his seventeenth assist this season on the primary, while Sam Malinski would add his seventh assist to his season total with the secondary. This would be the final goal scored in period 1. Our Blue Jackets would carry a 2-1 lead into period 2. The Avalanche would lead in shots on goal this period, 11-5.

Now, 5th Line, this is your warning to sit down before you read this next paragraph because our Blue Jackets would have the breakout period we knew this roster was capable of here and now. Jake Christianson would kick off the goal windfall with his second of the season at 4:19! Mathieu Oliver would add an assist to his goal in period 1, and this primary assist would become the second of his season. Charlie Coyle would also add a second assist tonight on the secondary, his tenth of the season. This goal by Jake Christiansen would bring our Blue Jackets to a 3-1 lead. Cole Sillinger would take us to a 4-1 lead with his fourth goal this season at 7:20! Zach Wernski would join the scoresheet with his eleventh assist of the season on the primary, while Mathieu Oliver would get his third point with his third assist of the season on the secondary. Charlie Coyle would bump the home team up to a 5-1 lead with the second goal of his season at 12:03! This was also a power-play goal! That gives him a three-point night, too! Kent Johnson joins the scoresheet with his sixth assist this season on the primary, while Zach Wernski adds his second assist of the night on the secondary, his twelfth of the season. Seconds later, at 12:42, against his former team, Valeri Nichushkin would add his second goal to his season tally, taking our Blue Jackets to a 6-1 home lead! Sean Monahan would gain his fourth assist of the season on the primary, while Denton Mateychuk adds his second assist this season on the secondary. It's also worth noting that in this four-goal storm, the Avalanche would swap goaltender Scott Wedgewood for Mackenzie Blackwood. At the end of the period, at 16:35 to be precise, N Kadri would add his fifth goal this season. This goal would come on an Avalanche power play after Cole Sillinger went to the box for hooking Nathan MacKinnon at 15:44, and Charlie Coyle joined him at 16:18 for tripping Martin Nacas. Thankfully, our Blue Jackets would successfully kill off the rest of the power-play time that remained after the Avalanche's second goal tonight. Nathan MacKinnon would add his eighteenth assist this season on the primary, while Cale Makar would add his fourteenth this season on the secondary. This would be the final goal of period 2, and our Blue Jackets would now lead 6-2. Easily, the best second period all season! The Avalanche would lead in shots on goal, 12-7, but when you're up four goals, it's all good!

At 11:21, Charlie Coyle would make it 7-2 with his second goal of the night, his third of the season. Cole Sillinger would add an assist to his goal in period 2, his fourth this season, on the primary. Damon Severson would join the score sheet as the twelfth Blue Jacket with a point tonight, picking up his fourth assist this season on the secondary. This would be the final goal of the game, and our Blue Jackets win, 7-2, over the Avalanche. The Blue Jackets led in shots on goal, 12-7. Can the Remix Jerseys become permanent? Seriously!

Cole Sillinger is our Third Star of the Game. He had a 1-1-2 night.

Mathieu Oliver is our Second Star of the Game. He had a 1-2-3 night.

Charlie Coyle is our First Star of the Game. He had a 2-2-4 night.

Special mention to Cam Talbot. He went 27/29, giving him a .931 save percentage.

I'm always honest with you, 5th Line. I thought this score was likely, but never imagined we'd be the team to put up 7 goals. I'm so impressed. This team has raised the bar, clicked on the ice, and finally had a good second period and closed out a high-scoring game! We will face the Dallas Stars at home on Thursday night. We lost to them in Dallas by a single goal this past weekend, and for the sake of Hockey Fights Cancer Night, I think it's time to take two points from them! The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m.!

GO CBJ!
