Pittsburgh Penguins @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 24

This was a fast game full of goals. Sicney Crosby, the one and only, would score first tonight at 6:10. The only assist on this goal would belong to Kris Latang. The goal for Crosby would be his fourteenth this season, while the assist for Latang would be his eighth. Before this opening period ended, Sean Monahan would score goal number three of his season at 13:40, tying the game at 1-1! Brendan Smith would get his first assist as a Blue Jacket on the primary, while Damon Severson would add his seventh this season on the secondary.  Period 2 would belong to the Blue Jackets. They'd score two goals this period and allow the Penguins nothing. Kent Johnson would go to the box at 2:46 for tripping Kevin Hayes, but instead of the Penguins' scoring on their power play, Brendan Gaunce would get his first goal this season shorthanded! Miles Wood adds assist number two to his season on this goal, while Zach Werenski adds assist number fifteen to his on the secondary. Then, at the end o...

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 23

Tonight, we're thankful for a great game, 5th Line. It would start with a rookie lap for a new Blue Jacket. Luca Pinelli, welcome to the NHL!  It would take until Period 3 for either team to have a good goal. I say that because the Blue Jackets had a goal in Period 2 from Zach Werenski, but it wouldn't stand as the Leafs would challenge after seeing the Blue Jackets were offside. The score would return to 0-0 until Zach Werenski's eighth goal of his season at 13:30 in Period 3 couldn't be questioned! The only assist on this goal would become the first this season for Miles Wood! Unfortunately, Easton Cowan would score the second goal of his season at 16:43, tying us again, but at 1-1. This goal would have two assists. The primary would go to William Nylander and become his twentieth this season, while John Tavares would add his sixteenth assist this season on the secondary. With no goals in the final few minutes for either team, each would pick up a point and go to over...

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Washington Capitals: Season 25 Game 22

So...this game started out as a battle between the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets and the home Washington Capitals, but it did not stay that way. Period 1 would have a single goal, and it'd belong to the Capitals' Jakob Chychrun. This would become goal number seven of his season at 6:05. The primary assist would go to Ryan Leonard, his sixth this season, and the secondary assist would go to Hendrix Laplerre, his fifth this season. The Blue Jackets would have life in this period, but the Capitals' goalie, Logan Thompson, would dismiss every puck that came near him.  Period 2 would look promising for the Blue Jackets until the last few minutes. Tom Willson would take his Capitals up 2-0 with goal twelve of his season at 16:29. Aliaksei Protas adds assist number eight to his season with the primary, while Justin Sourdif would add his second on the secondary. This would be the start of the floodgates opening as Jakob Chychrun would add goal two to his night, eighth to his seas...

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Toronto Maple Leafs: Season 25 Game 21

The opening period tonight for the Blue Jackets would have its highs and lows. The high point was that the Maple Leafs had two power play chances, and the Blue Jackets and Jet Greaves created a brick wall, allowing no goals on either power play and throughout the period. The lows were that they only had 4 shots on goal compared to the Maple Leafs' 12, and that we had a power play chance where the visiting team didn't accomplish anything. In the end, the first period would end as it began, 0-0.  Period 2, we'd see the Blue Jackets come alive. At 3:17, Dimitri Voronkov would angle a shot from Adam Fantilli into the home net for goal nine of his season! Of course, the primary assist would become number eight of Adam Fantilli's season, while Zach Werenski continues adding to his Blue Jackets point total, adding assist number eleven to his season on the secondary. Then, at 12:01, one of our native Toronto boys who's had amazing luck at home would elevate the Blue Jackets...

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Winnipeg Jets: Season 25 Game 20

After a home game last night, with bonus hockey leading to a shootout win over the Montreal Canadians 4-3, the Columbus Blue Jackets hopped on a plane to Canada. They played their next game tonight, less than 24 hours later, at the Jets. The home team would be the first to score in a competitive opening period. Their goal would come from Adam Lowry at 7:35, and this would be his first goal of the season. Nino Niederreiter would add assist number eight of his season on the primary, while Neal Pionk would add his fourth on the secondary. The Jets would lead 1-0, but at the end of Period 1, Miles Wood would speed down the ice and score his fifth goal of the season! Damon  Severson would add his fifth assist on the primary, and a rare goalie assist would happen with Elvis Merzlikins getting the secondary assist, his first of the season. The Blue Jackets and Jets would run down the rest of the clock, keeping it a 1-1 tie ahead of Period 2. The shots on goal for this period were even at ...

Montreal Canadians @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 19

6:58 after the bang of the cannon to symbolize the start of the game tonight in Nationwide Arena, it would go off again for Zach Werenski's fifth goal this season! Mathieu Oliver and Charlie Coyle would continue making their point as to why they get so much ice time, with Olivier getting assist number six of his season on the primary and Coyle getting his tenth this season on the secondary. This would be the only goal of the period, giving the Blue Jackets a one-goal lead ahead of period 2. The Blue Jackets would also have two more shots on net compared to the Canadians, 10-8.  At 4:47, the Canadians would match the Blue Jackets' goal after Oliver Kapanen scored number seven of his season. Mike Matheson would add his seventh assist this season on the primary, while teammate Ivan Demidov would add his tenth. After this tying goal for the Canadians, though, the Blue Jackets would have a huge answer. First, Adam Fanttilli would find goal six at the back of the Canadians' net ...

New York Rangers @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 18

It doesn't matter where the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets battle each other for points; it's going to be a fun, tight, and chippy game. Tonight was no different! Period 1 would conclude as it started with a 0-0 tie. The two teams would combine for just 14 total shots on goal; the home team Blue Jackets, could only call 4 of those shots their own. It was a slow start, but don't you worry, 5th Line, things picked up in Period 2.  It is worth noting that in Period 1, Miles Wood would make awkward contact as he fell into the post of the visitor's goal. He'd be awarded a penalty shot against Igor Shesterkin, which would be saved. Let's hope that since he did finish the game, it'll just be a bad bruise and nothing more.  The Rangers would get the first goal on the board after Damon Severson would be sent to the box for tripping Alexia Lafreniere. The penalty would be called at 4:12, and at 5:42, Mika Zibanejad would find the back of the net for goal s...

Edmonton Oilers @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 17

Hello, 5th Line. Thank you to everyone who wished me well last week. I had Covid, but am doing much better now. I've never been more ready to recap a hockey game with ya'll, so let's go!  First off, happy Hockey Fight Cancer 2025! To all those out there fighting, the survivors, and their families, we love you! Goal number one of the night would become number two this season for Mathieu Olivier! His goal would come at 15:38, and give Charlie Coyle on the Primary and Zach Werenski on the secondary their eighth assists of the season. The Blue Jackets wouldn't know it at the time, but they'd take a 1-0 lead into a very eventful Period 2.  00:44 into the middle period, Charlie Coyle would put away goal number three of his season, taking the Blue Jackets to a 2-0 lead. The only assist on this goal would go to Mathieu Olivier, his fifth so far this season. Special note, both men would now have a multipoint night (1-1-2) with roughly 2/3 of a game to play! Of course, the Oi...

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Calgary Flames: Season 25 Game 13

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but I find it heartwarming that game 13 of our season is against Johnny Gaudreau's original team and us. I'm sure this won't happen again for quite some time, but it feels right, you know? Johnny Forever.  The Columbus Blue Jackets would enter this game looking to start another win streak after their last was broken in a heartbreaker, 3-2 loss at the New York Islanders Sunday evening.  That said, the game did not start out in our visiting team's favor. Morgan Frost would score goal three of his season, putting the Flames on the board first, at 00:56. The primary assist would become number four of the season for Jonathan Huberdeau, while the secondary assist would become number three this season for Matt Coronato. Seconds later, at 1:32, Blake Coleman would add goal six to his season, bringing the Flames to an early 2-0 lead. Joel Hanley would gain assist number three of his season on the primary, while Samuel Honzek would ad...

Columbus Blue Jackets @ New York Islanders: Season 25 Game 12

The Columbus Blue Jackets would go into their first road game of the next five looking for their fifth win in a row. After last night's thrilling 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues in regulation, the visiting Blue Jackets would have a rough first period. They'd have 3 shots on goal compared to the Islanders' 18. The islanders would also be the only team to score a goal in this opening period. At 5:53, with Damon Severson serving 2 minutes for a cross-check to the Islanders' Jonathan Drouin, Mathew Schaefer would make the fourth goal of his season a power play. Thankfully, the Blue Jackets would hold the Islanders to that 1-0 lead, and Period 2 would go their way.  The Blue Jackets would win the middle period. They'd have more shots on goal, 14 compared to 10 for the Islanders, and find the tying goal at 15:21! Miles Wood would add goal number four to his season, and it's great to see him return so strong after that stick to the face a few weeks back. Adam Fantilli...

St. Louis Blues @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Season 25 Game 11

The St. Louis Blues came to town tonight hoping to prevent the Columbus Blue Jackets from winning a fourth game in a row, while simultaneously ending their own six-game losing streak. The Blues would gain an early one-goal advantage at 3:37 with number two of the season for Justin Faulk. This goal would yield two assists, the primary becoming number five this season for Oskar Gundqvist, and the secondary becoming the fourth this season for Dylan Holloway. The Blues' lead would be short-lived, as the Blue Jackets would make quick work answering by way of Charlie Coyle's second goal this season at 4:38. Seconds later, Tyler Tucker and Mathieu Olivier would fight in Nationwide Arena. Trust that Mathieu won this fight, and that both men got five minutes in the box, but well worth it! This is his fifth point in two games! Cole Sillinger, with the primary assist, would add his fourth assist this season and his fourth point in the last two games as well. In addition, Ivan Provorov wou...
